European Guitar & Mandolin Youth Orchestra

This event takes place in a different country every year and attracts the best plucked string instrumentalists up to the age of 27 from many European countries. The event usually lasts for one week, culminating in performances, radio broadcasts and CD recordings of a specifically commissioned composition.

EGMA (European Guitar and Mandolin Association) was set up in Germany in 1996 to promote guitar and mandolin music throughout Europe. Members of the Association include several European nations, with the aim of assisting international exchange of experience and communal learning, particularly for young people who play plucked instruments. Each EGMYO event is jointly organised by EGMA and a musical organisation from the host country.

For the past number of years there have been one or two players associated with the LGMA participating in this event. Other countries participating include Belarus, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia and Spain.
