European Guitar & Mandolin Youth Orchestra
Italy 2007
This event takes place in a different country every two years and attracts the best stringed instrument
players up to the age of 25 from fourteen European countries. The event usually lasts for five days,
culminating in performances, radio broadcasts and CD recordings of a specifically commissioned composition.
EGMA (European Guitar and Mandolin Association) was set up in Germany in 1996 to promote guitar and
mandolin music throughout Europe. Members of the Association include several European nations, with the
aim of assisting international exchange of experience and communal learning, particularly for young people
who play plucked instruments. Each EGMYO event is jointly organised and funded by EGMA and a musical
organisation in the host country.
For the last two events, the LGMA has been an active member of the EGMYO, with one of our players
successfully gaining entry to the event.
It is planned that two players associated with the LGMA will attend the Italian EGYMO in 2007.
Check back later in 2007 for an update!
The last EGMYO, held in Luxemburg 2005, attracted 53 players from:
- Belarus (1)
- Germany (11)
- France (1)
- Greece (5)
- UK (2)
- Italy (9)
- Luxemburg (6)
- Netherlands (4)
- Norway (4)
- Russia (3)
- Spain (7)
