In partnership with the East Kilbride Arts Centre and others, we run a variety
of classes throughout the year for young people and
adults of all abilities including beginners, intermediate and advanced.
These introduce participants to the
music and basic techniques of the mandolin, including
playing melodies and chords. The general introduction to music includes looking at a variety of styles, the basics of
reading music and music theory.
You don't need to own a mandolin. You can hire one from the LGMA for £1 per week during the class times.
You keep it at home, and during the time when there are no classes (summer holidays etc) you still keep it,
and we don't charge you during this time. (In other words you only pay the hire charge during class times.)
You do not need any experience at all to participate in these classes; just commitment. You will learn in a progressive way
to play the mandolin and to read music.
Intermediate and Advanced classes
These classes build
on the previous level. Further plectrum techniques are
introduced and the possibilities of musical interpretation are explored. Pieces are taken from a variety of styles
including folk, classical and popular music.
Instruments
Mandolins are available for hire for all classes.
Fact: There are more people learning mandolin at East Kilbride Arts Centre than at any other location in the U.K.
