Lanarkshire Guitar and

Banjo, Mandolin & Guitar Federation (BMG) Festival & Rally

The LGMA was proud to host the 2008 BMG Rally
29th February to 2nd March 2008
Murray Owen Centre, East Kilbride

This page has information on the Rally Programme, the venue and facilities.

The Rally is open to players and non-players alike. While the competitions and some of the workshops are intended for players only, there is plenty to interest non-players, who can browse the exhibition stalls and come along to the opening concert, go to one of the Come & Try workshops, join us at the ceilidh, competition sessions or open stage.

This event is one of the highlights of the BMG Federation's calendar. It is an exciting opportunity to meet other players, hear mini recitals, enter competitions, attend workshops and visit stalls. The Rally is a weekend event with a friendly atmosphere.

Opening Concert - Brejeiro
Fri 7:30 pm

Tickets £12, (£10 for BMG members, £6 for all under 18s) Brejeiro

Brejeiro is an exciting new acoustic group that specialises in the Choro style of music from Brazil. Twin mandolins play haunting melodies over pulsating rhythm guitar, all propelled by dynamic latin percussion that makes dancing irresistible. Brejeiro mix traditional Choro tunes with contemporary songs and original compositions in a vibrant show.

Review from Bath Chronicle of Brejeiro
at the Bath Fringe Festival 2005

The first act of the night was Brejeiro, a quartet that specialize in Brazilian music. The slinky Brazilian music went down a treat in the room. "As it enters the ear" jazz guitarist Eddie Condon once asked "Does the music come in like broken glass or does it come in like honey?" Brejeiro's music was honey all the way.

Mini Recitals
Throughout Saturday 1st March, Rally visitors can listen to a selection of short talks and classical or jazz performances from some of our tutors and guests, and join in with traditional musical sessions and sing-songs. These activities are covered in the £3 day pass fee for audience members, and are free to workshop participants and competition entrants.

Exhibition Stalls
The exhibition area will have stalls and exhibitions from local and national businesses and organisations. Visitors to the rally will be able to browse this area at all times during the rally weekend.
If you would like to exhibit at the rally or advertise in the printed programme, please contact Lynn at the LGMA for more information. Email membership@mandolinscotland.org
