Eurofestival Zupfmusik 2006

Da Capo Alba was proud to represent Scotland at this event, where the orchestra played a set of Scottish tunes.

This major event was organised by the German Federation (BDZ) with the support of the EGMA. Contact and more information at: www.bdz-online.de

The Federation of German Plucked String Musicians, the leading organization for plucked string ensembles, held its major music festival together with the European Guitar and Mandolin Association (EGMA) and in conjunction with the European Guitar Teacher Association (EGTA-D) from May 25th -28th, 2006 in Bamberg.

The festival is the biggest of its kind in the world and only takes place every four years. The 2006 venue was the Bamberg Concert Hall, the home of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and the historical building directly adjacent was also used. As a World Cultural Heritage site, Bamberg radiates its own special architectural charm.

The Concept: "Diversity - Encounters - Highlights"

"diversity"

  • Questions of style and types of instrumentation
  • Choice of repertoire
  • Origins of musical culture
  • Attitudes to interpretation
  • Musical traditions
  • Current artistic trends

"encounters"

  • Sharing information, opinions and experience relating to the field of plucked strings
  • Communicating new ideas
  • International comparison of instrumental and artistic achievements
  • Meetings of young people from various countries, to explore forms of expression and issues peculiar to this age group
  • Taking account of contrasting artistic traditions
  • Cooperation between different cultures
  • Getting to know each other at a personal level beyond national boundaries
  • Mutually productive cooperation between amateur and professional musicians
  • Contributing to international understanding

"highlights"

  • The performance of unusual pieces, which - because of their level of difficulty, compositional conception or special instrumentation - can be realised only within the framework of this sort of festival
  • Presenting especially talented young performers
  • Involving outstanding performers and ensembles from the international concert scene
