Guitars wanted! Due to the popularity of our new guitar classes, we are asking for donations of nylon strung classical guitars.

Welcome to the web site of the Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Association. Here you will find information on the mandolin and guitar in their various forms, together with information on the Association.

You will also be able to find information about the tuition we provide, our adult orchestra, Da Capo Alba and our youth orchestra, MANGO, together with dates for up-coming events and concerts.

So please, take time to browse our pages, and thank you for visiting!

The Association

The Association was formed in January 1999 to promote music played on mandolin and guitar and to provide a forum for those people with an interest in this type of music.

We encourage interest among children and adults in the mandolin and guitar and assist in their musical and instrumental development.

The LGMA is the largest organisation of its kind in the United Kingdom with 100s of children and adults now learning mandolin across Scotland.

Over the past years the Association has dramatically increased its activities, with even performances abroad.

Tuition

The Association runs classes and workshops (see the Tuition pages) in partnership with other organisations, and also independently.

As with many other instruments, graded exams are available for Mandolin. These are run by the Victoria College of Music.

Association Committee

The LGMA is run by a voluntary committee, the members of which are elected each year. Posts include:

There are currently another eight members without specific titles, and these are members of the LGMA who are keen to volunteer their expertise and skills to the committee to help with activities such as:

Funding

The Association is funded through membership subscriptions, orchestra subscriptions and tuition fees as well as revenue from concerts and other fundraising activities such as raffles and advertising.

A significant amount of our income comes from grant making bodies and support agencies including Awards For All, South Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Arts Council.

Income from third party sources is often earmarked for a specific use such as musical activities for young people.
